Teni Reveals Nigerian Artistes That Influences Her Music As She Talks What She Learns From Them

We’ve often wondered where Teni got the enormous energy and talent she displays on her songs and on the stage while performing — and now she has all the answers for us and even some more.

Every artiste — either Nigerian or an International — has one or two people he/she looks up to in different areas of music creativity.

Some have an artiste each as their role model in important categories of entertaining fans like stage performances, record session in the studio, output, creativity, just to mention a few; while others might just have one person to fill it all. The former is how Teni rocks!

The 27-year-old in a recent interactive interview spoke on where she learnt to perform with such energy. According to the singer, Davido plays major role in that aspect considering the energy he himself exhausts while performing on stage.

“There’s something about that guy, I tell you,” Teni told Joey Akan on the latest series of Afro Intelligence. He’s hardworking. Davido would die on the stage. He doesn’t mind. His energy, ha! We die there. I learnt that from Davido.

The ‘Power Ranger‘ singer — real name Teniola Apata — added what she gains or like about Wizkid too: “But Wiz, I learnt the charisma. He controls the crowd. He has everything. He’s the man.”

She praised Tiwa Savage‘s voice referring it as a “magnificent” one as she recalls how she was forced to say it out loud at the former Mavin Records‘ artiste’s show:

“Tiwa Savage, have you ever heard her perform live?,” she said. The voice is magnificent. When I came to support her for her Eko Hotel show bro, I can remember I was forced to say this shit sounds so good. Because some people, when they perform live, the voice doesn’t match. So I’m telling you what I learn from each artist.”

I’m sure by now you should know Niniola (Apata) is her senior sister. And ofcourse, Teni has some nice to say about her too:

“Nini, that one is a show killer, my sister. If you watch her shows, that one, she doesn’t joke. Entertaining, dance. You’d know somebody is there,” she said.

Teni didn’t leave out the ‘African Giant’ — Burna Boy. According to her she enjoys his music because it is “undeniable”

We could actually say Davido has a much more influence on Teni because she seems to be embracing the DMW boss’ popular phrase “We rise by lifting others” — in her own way.

According to the billionaire singer, she’s looking forward to helping a lot of people by changing their lives for good:

“In the next 20 years, I look back at my career, how many people did I help? How many people’s lives have changed because I was involved?,” she said.
